Becoming a Cacti and Succulents Enthusiast

It was in February 2017 when I started collecting various kinds of cacti and succulents. I started with 8 kinds when I passed by a seller. When I saw what he was selling, my heart melted and there were glitters in my eyes. Haha. I was very impulsive at that time because I shelled out PhP800.00 for 10 pots only to find out that I can buy some of them for 3 kinds at PhP100.00. Anyway, that is how I started.

First batch of CnS: 3 succulents, and 7 cacti

I did not know how the proper way of watering or even taking care of them but with the help of tutorials on Youtube and a Facebook group of cacti and succulents (CnS) collectors, I learned a lot. My first few months consisted of going to the farmers market and garden centers to buy pots, soil, fertilizers and more kinds of CnS but I would prefer buying rare kinds of succulents, especially the rosettes like this one which I bought in Baguio:

Graptopetalum Pentandrum or Superbum

This originated from Europe and was sold to me at PhP600.00 by Succulents Syndicate‘s co-founder, Chin Tiu. I knew this is rare so the impulsive me bought it right away. However, because my mom used to move my plants to get more sun, she accidentally dropped it from several feet down. I had a heartache but I just can’t get mad at my mom. LOL. The difference from the other superbum I see being sold by other sellers is that it had shiny and fatter leaves. It’s just sad that it had to die soon.

For 10 months, I have more in my collection such as this,

and many moooore!

I created a page here on my wordpress entitled “Christina’s Terrace” dedicated to the cacti and succulents that I have now and will post updates from time to time as I love seeing my plants grow and thriving. I may also share a few tips on that page on how to take care of each kind of CnS because there are different ways of caring for each kind.

To my fellow plants enthusiasts, I would also love to see your plants so feel free to share them below.
